We of Project UCT2 insist, time and again, that we are not dead and that the game is still in production. Well, it's about time we proved it.
As part of the plan to revitalize the website, I've decided to open up this new topic to answer questions and, in general, talk about this project. After all, this part of the forum gets a little dry when all members can do is blindly speculate.
This is, of course, the first small step in many, and it will go hand-in-hand with the first main site update in months. After that, who knows what'll happen, but we'll be continuing this revitalization, no matter what.
So, please feel free to ask away, and we'll answer to the best of our ability.

After you complete then engine, how long will it take to complete the actual game? Will there be a linux version?

After you complete then engine, how long will it take to complete the actual game? I would say... Maybe a few months? I'm not certain, but we're doing other things in parallel with the engine development so it may not be as long as you would think. Since the engine takes advantage of open standards (OpenGL, OpenSDL, etc.) the answer is most assuredly yes. We will have these ports: - Windows 32-bit
- Windows 64-bit
- Linux (not sure how we're gonna handle this one, what with the various distributions and platforms. Perhaps have GCC compile for multiple target platforms?)
- Macintosh PPC
- Macintosh Intel

Ah, thats good news. I no longer use windows anymore, just ubuntu on its own, I can assist in developing the linux version if you wish? I'd recommend a binary like the quake 3/unreal tournament 2k4 demos.

Hello, I'm a new member here at Chrono Trigger II. I'd like to say that I'm very curious as to how this project will turn out, and I'm excited for it.
A question:
Will Magus make an appearance in this game? He was a choice to live or die in the previous installment, but will we have the same choice in this sequel?

Magus plays a very important part in the game. That's all I'm gonna say, hehe.

Now now, Jeldres, if you wanted to know that you could've just asked in the staff forums, hehe. Maybe shortly. I expect work on the engine to go full steam in March when Toku's done with his school project. A few months after that we should have something to show for our work.

I just want to say that this is an excellent idea guys. I can speak for everyone when I say that we appreciate the extra effort. Anyway, my questions are: Will time travel again play a central role, and if so, will we be seeing some new timelines? Next, will you incorporate dual and triple techs into the battle system? Thanks a lot.

@ Jeldres: Well, if there is to be a translation into other languages, I doubt I'll be the one to do it! But, if the opportunity comes up, then I don't see why not. I mean, to translate this would take someone with high literary skill in another language (not to say that my writing skills are Lord-Byron-hot, but it's far from conversational English) as well as English. Anyway, it's not something to really worry about until the script is finished. @ mobius: Thanks for the compliments. To answer your second question, yes, we are trying to implement multiple techniques in UCT2. It won't be exactly the same as it was in CT, since the cast is somewhat larger (the numbers, by themselves, are daunting!), but there will certainly be more cooperation between the characters in battle than we saw in Chrono Cross, I can safely guarantee that. As for your first question, I'm going to assume you meant "time periods," as "timelines" mean something completely different. Yes, UCT2 will focus on time travel, like CT did (I believe one of the reasons why Gangis started this project was because he wanted a more direct CT sequel that involved time travel instead of dimensional travel) and will host a variety of time periods, including a couple of new and effectively new ones. ;D

Yup, it just wouldn't be a party without the trusty knight, Sir Glenn. He, too, will have his own role to play in this story. As for what form he'll be in: well, since Magus is still alive......
