I'd have to agree. As far as I know, Zelda, as a person or a series, has no relation to this thread. Perhaps I missed something?
Anyway, something I forgot to ask. It would seem that you plan on allowing your MMX game to be multiplayer. Is that the case? If so, how do you plan on working that out? If X and Zero are playable charcters, you can be sure that there will be far more Zero's running around than MMX's. And that could get messy if someone tries to play a game together over the net. Or, perhaps MMX and Zero are integral characters, but that you can't select them for mutliplayer. Perhaps you can design your own character. Is that an idea? (Well, yes it is an idea, but is it related to yours in anyway, and if yes, in what way?) If you do decide to include a "design your own character" dealy, that would be cool. Especially if you could import your own graphics/animations ect. The problem with that is if people use that function for less than desirable means (naughty pics/animations come to mind). Of course, you could always include the option "do not download remote players character skins" or something. Obviously, this is only a concern if you can design your own characters, and allow people to import their own stuff (both of which I doubt is going to happen. But I just thought I'd ask)
Also, what quality of graphics do you expect? You said it's going to be a 2D sidescroller (which, by the way, I suck at) but that you're building 3D models for cutscenes. The main game part, would you say that's SNES quality, or higher (I would expect higher, but not require it)? Now, for chronoct's enjoyment, I'll include a Zelda related note. I recently (re)downloaded Zelda Classic (it's a Zelda 1 remake. It's completely recoded for for the PC from the ground up. No emulation what so ever is used. Also, it includes a game editor, so that you can create your own game using the Zelda Classic engine. From what I gather, it's actually quite easy to use, compared to most game maker software out there. Oh yah, and it's completely free. However, I don't remember the website off hand, sorry). When I did so (download it, that is), I also downloaded a few custom quests for it, just for kicks. One of the ones I got was a MM game, based on the MM classic series (I assume, since the graphics matched it pretty good). The reason I bring this up is because it looks like an interesting game, and got a fair score (as opposed to a bad one). However, because of the limits of the Zelda Classic engine, the graphics aren't much better than NES quality (though you can get SNES quality with the right tileset and stuff). Even though the graphics aren't SNES quality, I'll probably play it because it looks interesting. I bring that up because, obviously, graphics aren't going to make or break it for me (though they can have an effect). As such, higher than SNES quality, though expected, is not required. I was just curious as to what we could expect, more or less.
Something to keep in mind. Since your idea is obviously in the very very very early stages of development, you don't have to tell me anything. Feel free to leave it open for debate, as things may change in the future (UCT2 has changed lots of times in the past few years). Also you don't want to share out something, and then have it be different (in the final product) than what people expected (their expectations based on the info you shared previous to release), thereby dashing their hopes into the ground. Basically, feel free to share as little, or as much, as you want.
Last, but not least, a little something to keep MML on subject. Based on the info/ideas/game you have, would you say it might be possible to create a MML based game, with what you're going to release? Perhaps not to the general public, sure, but maybe you guys as a group? Just curious. As I said before, I'd really like to see that series finalized.
On a side note of that, I'd really like to be able to extract the 3D models out of MML and MML2 (and while I'm at it, The MisAdventures of Tron Bonne would be nice as well). It would make game development a lot easier for fans of the series. In fact, I was thinking it would be really cool if there was a MML game where MM, Tron (from MAoTB), and Roll were playable characters. MM would be MM, of course. Tron would play basically the same as she does on MAoTB (including requiring the servobots. Those little yellow guys are fun to torrment, sometimes). Roll would play a sort of combo between MM and Tron. Tron is in a Mechanoid device. MM is, from what I gather, supposed to be a very advanced techno-suit thing. Roll would be, in my mind's eye, in an exo-skeloton thing of her construction. It would be a little clunckier than MM (she is after all bigger), but it would require the servobots to use it. Also, being the mechanic that she is, it would have features that aren't found elsewhere. Such as self-repair. After time, you start to build back some of your lost energy bar. Of course, such a feature would have to be limited to keep things balanced, but since she's a mechanic, she could repair the unit, if need be. Also, she could change her accessory weapon on the fly. MM could have a secondary weapon in MML, but you could only change it by talking to Roll. Since Roll is a mechanic, she could install it herself, and even change what weapon she uses. Of course, this could be limited by the amount of extra weapons/parts she can hold at a time. But basically, I think it could work, and make her a viable character to choose to play as.
Obviously, such an idea wouldn't fit into the MML series that well, since Roll is always the supporting character. However, it could be pulled off, especially if they decide to change things up for MML3 (that would be cool).
Another note: I seem to be pretty good at coming up with ideas for characters, events, things, places, ect... But when it comes down to story elements, I seem to be lacking. Why does Roll decide to fight alongside (or instead of?) Megaman? Perhaps MM has been injured. Perhaps he can't fight.
Nothing big, but in MML1, Tron starts liking MM. In fact, she tries to convince him to join up with them and be a pirate (early on in the game, you've only met Tron once before). Of course, MM turns down her offer. Anyway, Tron likes MM, as seen from both MML1 and 2. So, for use with this idea, Tron could find out that MM is in trouble, and she wants to help rescue him. As such, she and Roll could work together to provide a means to rescue MM. And that could be why Roll decides to fight. She doesn't trust Tron (after all, Tron is an air pirate) and wants to have a backup plan in case Tron doesn't come through, or finds "a mother load," and decides to sell it off for a profit, or something. So, she goes into digging herself. Anyway, those are some ideas I've had for a MML2.5 or 3.
SPOILER WARNING!!!
SPOILER WARNING! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.For those who haven't played MML2: End game info located below
Or, perhaps, like in the end of MML2, he can't fight because he's still on Elysium. At the end of MML2, Tron Bonne and Roll are actually working together to get MM off of Elysium. Start MML3: They've run out of resources, so they have to go and dig up more. Roll, wanting to help MM all she can, builds herself a suit so that she can go into the ruins herself. Tron, on the other hand, already haveing equipment (from Tron Bonne game) goes into them. Both could be playable characters, with the story changing depending on who you play. And, it would tie into the series because it does have slight precedence to MML2, where Tron and Roll are trying to build a rocket to fly to Elysium.
END SPOILER. For those unaware, it's nothing big, but it is at the very end of the game.
Oh, another sidenote, talking about extracting 3D models from MML series reminds me of something I found on the net. It's a level editor for Starfox 1 for the SNES. It can modify models, ships, enemies, animations, everything. From what I could tell, it was rather impressive. However, it's still beta, and only works on the 1.0v of the Starfox SNES ROM. Yes, this belongs in the Starfox Assualt thread more than it does here. However, since we've already started talking about Zelda in here, I figured it wouldn't hurt.
Okay, how's that for a read, chronoct?
Anyway, I think that's all I have to say for now. Mouser X over and out.
[EDIT] Made spoiler warning more noticeable.
