Well, this year's E3 has certainly been interesting. We've seen the release of information on the Playstation 3, the XBox 360 and the Nintendo "Revolution". Here are my opinions on these three consoles: Playstation 3www.gamespot.com/ps3/index.htmlSony has failed to bring anything exciting or original to the table for the PS3, save for advanced graphics capabilities. And on top of that, the console itself is pretty fugly and the controllers... I mean, what the hell were they thinking? It looks like a boomerang, and I don't think it's comfortable at all. Sony has once again sacrificed quality and substance for style. XBox 360www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/16/news_6124746.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6124746Yes, the XBox 360. It's looking to be the most powerful out of all three consoles of the upcoming generation. It does look pretty cool, though the fact that it has selective backwards compatibility bothers me. I'd like to find out more about it before I firmly establish my opinion on it. Nintendo "Revolution"biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050517/latu045.html?.v=11Wow. Just wow. Nintendo has finally managed to impress me, first with the size of this console (three stacked DVD cases) and the features. What impressed me the most, and nearly made me soil my underwear, was the fact that it would be backwards compatible with every single Nintendo console ever made, from the NES to the Gamecube. The Revolution will take both 8cm Gamecube discs and 12cm Revolution discs, and they assume that the NES-N64 compatibility would be done through downloads and an emulator. I'd say, out of the three, Nintendo has wowed me the most. I can't wait to get my hands on this "Revolution".

Not much to add, but I am in agreement with the previous statement. However, it should be noted that I have payed little to no attention to anything other than stuff from Nintendo... However, as I recently bought a few PS2 games (so it took me awhile to get them... I don't have the system yet either. I'm barrowing it...) the PS3 has my interest, as I'll need some way to play my new games... Chances are though that I'll buy a used PS2 when the PS3 comes out, just like I did when I got my PSX. Either that, or emulate them on the Revoltion (once someone makes an emulator for it that actually plays PS2 games... Yah, that method will take a long time, and lots of patience...).
Anyway, based on some interviews I've read, it would seem the real revolution is in the controller and how the user interacts with the system. Chances are, we won't be seeing that for at least a few months yet (again, based on the interview).
There's my 4 cents worth. Mouser X over and out.

i've seen all consoles but i have digged deeper into Nintendo's Revolution because there is not alot of information out there. I have never been a fan of Playstation so i doubt i would buy a PS3 (alltough i am truely anxious to see the visuals of the next final fantasy, btw im not an FF fan either) i think for me its either an Xbox 360 or a Nintendo-Rev i think gamecube was pretty much a failure compared to the standards we know from nintendo. the GC's system was definently up to par but it lacked in games, i hope Revolution doesnt go the way of the gamecube

Well, since this was about consoles, I figured this message fit here the best. Apparently, the guys who made xLink have discontinued persuing support for the NDS tunneling. Admitidly, I can't blame them. From what I had read, it was a real serious pain to get anything working at all. However, since Nintendo has announced that they will have an online ability coming soon, it's not that big of a deal to most people. Personaly though, I'd still like to tunnel my NDS (when I get one that is) for those games that don't go online (Metroid Prime: Hunters is not online, if I've heard correctly, though I could easily be wrong). However, that's not what this post is about. I just brought that up because I was searching for that info when I came across something far more awesome. Someone has written a Gamecube program that tracks all of the input from a GC controller, and then sends that data over the internet through the Broadband Adapter (among other important things, of course). The recieving GC then uses this data to simulate a secondary controller. What that means is that games that aren't online multiplayer (meaning your friend has to be there with his controller plugged into slot 2 to play with you), can be. It's already been tested, and proven to work. However, the guy who's writing it hasn't released it yet because it still has some major kinks to work out. For those who don't know what this means, it means that you can play F-Zero GX online, or Starfox: Assault, or Metroid Prime: Echoes, or especially Super Smash Bros.: Melee. You could even play Mario Kart Double Dash without using tunneling software (that's what xLink does). A few problems with all this is that you still need an adapter (preferably Broadband, though it works basically as well with the modem). You'll also need a way of loading homebrewn software onto the GC. PSOload can do this (for those who have that, and PSO), or SDload, or Action Replay can do it as well. Just for kicks, it is theoretically possible to have a 30 player game on F-Zero GX using this program. It would make the GC think all the other players are CPU, allowing you to have your own screen. It would simply change the location of all the other players as it recieves the info from them. Currently, the program doesn't support this. As such, whenever you play a multi-player game with this program, you will still be in split screen mode, as you will still need to select the multi-player options and features. Anyway, the program started beta-testing about a week or so ago. It looks very promising, as far as opening up a huge number of multi-player games for the GC goes. For those interested, here's a link to the original forum I found this info at: www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6665&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=af7c1e0bd96ef8c040110c9aef4fe0d5I hope everyone finds this info enlightening/useful, in some way. Mouser X over and out. [EDIT] Apparently, the link is to long to work properly. You may need to (and probably will) copy the text (minus the seperation) to your web address bar, and go to the site that way. [EDIT2] Oh yah, that post I linked to is about 5 pages long. I'm not sure what pages have the most relevant info, but I'd keep an eye out for web links (though they might not be highlighted), as that's where the most updated and detailed info can be found.

i'm actually quite looking forward to the release of each system, i especially like it if the Revolution does allow for the game play of the games from the older systems, especially if they are offering a place to download them from, which would then shorten drastically the time it takes to find some games if a person is emulating them. also i know it most likely won't happen but if they were to translate some of the games that were only released in japan and make them available that would be great, as there are so many games that were never released here that are really good.

i most likely won't be buying a ps3 for at least 1 year after it comes out, as it will probably be around $500 just like the ps2 was when it came out.

I plan to buy a Revolution on or around launch day and to get a PS3 a year or so later.

Cool, this is the most people I've seen on at once.
And for the post before that: The Revolution is a next gen console that can actually play GC games and you can download NES, SNES, and N64 games onto it to play. So I guess it is kind of an emulator though it doesn't use roms and probably has some high security format.

I don't remember them saying for sure that it will be able to play emulated games, i thought they had said that it might have the capability for it. I certainly hope that it will be able to do that.
