Well first I wanted to state that I am a huge CT fan. It is and always will be my favourite game. However, after taking an unobjective look at that web page several points come to mind, both good and bad.
The first and most obvious point is why the heck does this person hate CT so much that they had to go and make a web page out of it?!?!?!?! I have to agree that this person seems to have an abundace of time on their hand which like could go to better use.
Next, I would like to say if you don't like something then don't play it or don't associate yourself with it. The creator of that web page has clearly done both (it actually seems that the creator of that web page has even finished the game) which puzzles me as to their sense of mind. (i.e. its logical to stop playing if you don't like a game but the web page creator played to the end?!?!?! - maybe the creator of that web page is a sadist lol).
Another thing to be noted, is that no where on the web page does the creator cite his name. In my opinion if this person really was behind his position 100% they would want to let people know who made it or a way to contact them to discuss this idea further yet, the opposite is seen. (Likely so that they wouldn't recieve hate mail)
Also, after reading the quotes from interviews on the Chrono Trigger Hate Page I found the lack of source citing and the language content used made the validity of both the arguement and the quotes questionable at best. I think full url links to these interviews should have been posted or atleast the full articles as it is obvious that anything can be misinterpreted when taking only a mis-mash of quotes from here and there and then sowing them together. Let readers see the whole article and formulate their own opinion.
However, like I said after reviewing that web page unobjectively I feel there are some valid points. Of note I either agree with the following points or can somewhat understand thier position.
1. Too few playable characters.
Although, this isn't that big a deal perhaps CT would have been more fun if there were more playable characters (Schala comes to mind)
2. Big but empty world maps, with no enemy encounter and very monotonous atmospheres (particularly in Prehistory and Future).
True enough. I often wish there was more buildings and places that you could explore. This point is pretty had to deny even to the most hard core of die hard CT fans. However, having no monster encounter is just a part of the game play and I really didn't think the atmospheres were too monotonous on the world map.
7. Redundant double and triple techs.
@ Rinran - not to be mean or anything but lol you just kind of validated this guys point. Redundant means to be unnecesarily repetitive and by you saying that there was many healing techs it just agrees with the point. More over some of the double and triple techs are redundant such as the many spin attacks or the many sword attacks (i.e. fire sword, ice sword, spire etc). Although, I liked all the tech just the same.
12. Numerous enemies are killed off in inappropriate, unsatisfying, and difficult to believe fashions (Dalton, Ozzie, etc.).
I'm not so sure I would say numerous but Dalton and Ozzie, OK, I see your point. It was somewhat stupid for Dalton to get sucked into his own portal thing becasue the golem boss was already defeated. Also, Ozzie's has a pretty strong 'ultimate barrier' so it suck that falling into a hole would be the end of him. However, it is clear that while these scenes are somewhat stupid they are definately only intended to be humorous and to emphasize these characters' stupidity and uselessness.
I will not explain my reasoning on the rest but some other points valid, in one way or another, are:
22. Level advancement is a joke considering the lack of difficulty and thus unnecessity of levelling-up sessions.
3. The actual consequences of time travel should have been more of a focus in the plot.
8. Game difficulty and level advancement should have been more drastic.
10. More interesting and compelling villians should have been used.
Somethings I would like people to answer for me are the following points, as I either didn't understand what was being said or didn't see the relavance.
Pointless:
4. Character design is far inferior to Yonutsaka Amano's works in the Final Fantasy series.
This to me seems relative and too highly opinionated. Also, even if this were true how does this cause the 'downfall' of CT?
9. Most characters, whether they are playable or not, are silly and pointless.
Again, same as the previous statement.
16. Frog character completely invalidated and insulted through implication that he wasn't the one to plunge Masa & Mune's Red Knife into the Mammon Machine.
I am unsure how this would make CT any better or worse based on this fact. I am also even more perplexed as to why Frog has to plunge the Red Knife into the Mammon Machine because its clear he didn't create the Masamune otherwise I'm sure he would have known how to reforge it from the start.
23. Battle music continues to play during the EXP gain phase after combats, instead of changing to an orchestrated, mood-setting victory fanfare.
Do you really need music to tell you that you have won a battle. Actually, this kind of sounds like the web page creator wasn't loved enough and thus need renforcement that they are a winner.
25. Boring "unique weapon" hunting system eliminates fun of forging and refining custom weapons, armor, etc.
Again, this is a matter of opinion as definately wont make or break a game. Also, this system isn't any different from other Final Fantasy games such as Final Fantasy IV (released as FFII in North America) so I don't see what the point is?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_IV5. Weapons, items, locations, musical themes, and supporting characters should have been less childish and stereotyped.
7. Enemies shouldn't vanish when you run away from battles, they should remain on the exploration screen to possibly chase you and resume the battle.
9. A weapon forging system of some sort should have been included, like in Secret of Mana.
Just didn't get:
3. Tech system removes almost all character customization possibilities and contributes to a Dragon Ball Z-like classification of special attacks.
What exactly is a Dragon Ball Z like classification?!?!?!
19. "Good" ending is childish nonsense followed by a brief cutesy cutscene that makes no sense whatsoever. Crono and Marle floating thousand feet above the ground? What were they thinking?
What does "good ending" refer too?
Everything else i didn't agree with but this post is too long already so to sum up everything the first aformentioned points about why that page sucked can be found above.
